Betrayal Unveiled

Simon shamelessly asks Gemma to help him cut the cake, but she can't fake it anymore and excuses herself to leave the party with Tom, says she doesn’t feel well and wants to rest. Tom asks to stay with his dad, but Gemma doesn’t have the mind to care about that anymore. She drives off in front of Ros and breaks the car mirror at the gate.

At home, Tom brings up Becky’s daughter, Isobel, whose parents got divorced and now Becky cries all the time. When Gemma asks why he mentions that, he says it was just to talk and goes upstairs. Left alone in the kitchen, Gemma removes all the family pictures on the fridge. Then, she goes upstairs, packs Simon’s things, and puts them in some trash bags. She places all of that at the bottom of the stairs. She brings Tom a drink, and again he talks about Isobel’s parents' divorce, how Isobel was worried about having to move to live with her dad in Reading. This really torments Gemma as Tom says if Gemma and Simon are getting a divorce, he wants to stay in this house.

Revenge in Motion

At that moment, someone rings the doorbell, and Gemma goes down to get the door. It’s Ros, and she asks about Gemma’s drive off earlier. Gemma lets her into the house, and she notices the bags of Simon's stuff. Gemma doesn’t answer her question and just asks how long she has known. Ros still tries to play dumb and acts like she doesn’t understand what Gemma means. However, with a knife in her hand, Gemma says she found the phone and saw all the pictures, so Ros better tell her the truth now. It turns out, Simon came to her 4 weeks ago for a check-up, and she found something she thought might be an STI. When Ros asked him about sexual partners, he paused, and she guessed that something was up. She swears since then she was texting him all the time to tell Gemma. After saying that, Ros comes to give Gemma a hug, but Gemma refuses. Gemma asked how long it’s been going on, and Ros thinks maybe 3 months. Gemma then mentions how Ros informed Simon about her following him the other day. Ros says it likely was just a midlife crisis cheating, but Gemma doesn’t think so and says she will make Simon move out of the house after he comes back from the party. Gemma then sends Ros back to the party and tells her not to say anything to Simon. She wants him to come in unaware and see those suitcases and understand what he’s lost. After Ros leaves, Gemma checks up Kate on the internet.

Unraveling Secrets

Finally, Simon comes home but completely wasted and misses all of his stuff in the hallway as he rushes to the bathroom. He gets out of the bathroom and bumps into the luggage, making them fall. He fixes those but doesn’t realize they belong to him, and then he goes upstairs and passes out. Things don’t go as planned for her perfect revenge moment, and Gemma doesn’t know what else to do.

The next morning, Simon is woken up by his phone alarm; however, his stuff is back in the wardrobe, as well as the family picture on the wall. Simon goes to the kitchen, still hungover, but Gemma says it's better he wakes up because he has a football trip scheduled with Tom today. Gemma leaves for work after being forced to kiss Simon. He still has no idea he got exposed but can still feel how distant his wife is, so he asks her if he did anything wrong last night. Gemma lies and says everything was fine.

Confrontation and Choices

At work, Ros still wants to talk about it, but Gemma doesn’t want to and says she's busy. She tries to focus on work, then Kate shows up for a check-up appointment with Ros. But Gemma is obsessed and wants to know more about her husband's mistress, so she takes Kate in instead, saying Ros's schedule is overbooked despite Anwar's protest, Gemma’s first patient. Inside Gemma's office, Kate says she has been tired lately, had a cold for a couple of weeks, and it’s not going away. To her surprise, Gemma asks her to take off her clothes for an examination. Gemma notices that she’s in good shape, and Kate says she goes to the gym every day with a trainer. Gemma gets a blood sample and asks Kate about her partner and how often they are intimate. Kate says not much, as he’s married but unhappy, and his wife doesn’t know about the affair, as she looks at Gemma. Gemma then sends Kate out to take a urine sample and attempts to look through her bag, but suddenly Kate comes back to get it, and Gemma loses the chance. Gemma tests the urine, and it turns out Kate is pregnant, and she assumes Simon is the father. Even Kate is shocked and asks to talk with Ros, her real doctor. When Gemma gets out of the mess, she goes out to let her real patient, Anwar, in, but he has just left. She chases after him to the parking lot and apologizes, saying men his age don’t usually come in unless it’s something very important. She does a quick check for him right there; he thinks his morning sickness means he has a brain tumor, but she doesn’t see any signs of that. Gemma comes in as Kate is leaving, looking nervous. Ros informs her that Kate is not planning to keep the baby or tell anyone, but Gemma thinks she has to tell Simon despite Ros telling her not to.

Facing the Consequences

In the evening, Gemma comes back home and has dinner with Simon and Tom. She asks about their day and the football trip but struggles with the idea of confronting her husband. She can't sleep at night and texts Carly to meet up. They go to a club, and Gemma updates her about the mess. Carly talks about how all men want is a 22-year-old fertile woman, so it was just physical attraction. She also advises her not to tell Simon because that will make him leave Kate in the end and come back to Gemma. When they go out to smoke, Gemma sees Anwar and stops to talk to him. After a while, he reveals that his wife is 6 months pregnant, but 5 years ago, he had a scan that showed he actually DOES have a tumor. He didn't tell his wife, Alicia, and she's not going to understand. Gemma tells him to let his wife know because it’s important. Anwar also feels something is off with Gemma. As a lawyer who does a lot of divorces, he can tell when a woman has trouble at home with their husband. After the divorce, The men just start over with someone younger and more fun, while women are stuck with responsibilities and can't move on. Gemma is annoyed by what he says and repeats that he has to tell his wife about the tumor. Anwar is pissed and goes to the toilet, leaving his phone on the bar counter.
