In-ha arrives at the secret meeting place of Tae-oh and Hye-won, and it turns out he already knows about their relationship. Meanwhile, Tae-oh, who is in prison, recalls some details of the murder night; In-ju has given him drugs. The three of them—In-ju, Tae-oh, and In-ju's lover—then get into a car and move to another location, and Tae-oh notices that the driver seems shady.
The next day, at Joong Mo's office, Hyun Jin reports to him about Gi-jun's background; it turns out that Gi-jun is the son of a woman who had worked at the Kang mansion. The woman had died in an accident. Mo Gi-jun attended the same school as In-ha and later became the secretary to In-ju. Joong Mo suspects that In-ju might have ordered Gi-jun to assault Tae-oh, which is why he is threatening to take revenge on In-ju. However, he also hints to Hyun Jin that if someone like Tae-oh wanted revenge, he would completely ruin In-ju instead of killing him.
Meanwhile, Uwan tracks Gi-jun using a locator and decides to check on him himself. He meets In-ha in the elevator while heading to Gi-jun's apartment. Uwan pretends to press another floor but secretly follows In-ha and discovers that he lets himself into Gi-jun’s house.
Later, Uwan goes to the prison and tells Tae-oh about Gi-jun's background and the truth that Gi-jun has lived with In-ha right after his mother died. They have lived together for seven years in In-ha's apartment. Tae-oh is shocked to realize that In-ha is not his friend and that he actually knows nothing about him.
Uwan also reveals that he has discovered the shady dealings between In-ha and Gi-jun since he hacked Gi-jun’s burner phone and overheard their conversation, in which In-ha praises Gi-jun for testifying against Tae-oh in court.
The next day, Tae-oh is sentenced to death. In-ha informs the chairman, who is deeply saddened by the news. Tae-oh is transferred to a new prison. He meets Boss Tak and his group, who had pursued Hye-won during college because of her mother's debt. They immediately recognize Tae-oh and intend to bully him.
A lawyer from Kang-oh Corporation explains to In-ha that Tae-oh is likely to get a sentence reduction based on his unstable mental state at the time of the crime. However, to his surprise, In-ha expresses a desire for Tae-oh to die and asks the lawyer to ensure that will happen.
It turns out that Gi-jun had earlier given In-ha photos of Tae-oh and Hye-won kissing. In the bathroom, he imagines Tae-oh and Hye-won being intimate and gets furious. At that moment, Hye-won enters to say goodnight; In-ha forces a kiss on Hye-won but she pushes him away. In-ha then pushes her down into the bathtub and chokes her, saying he has chosen Hye-won only because Tae-oh cares for her. In-ha tells Hye-won to know her place and behave so she can live; otherwise, she will end up like Tae-oh. After saying this, he leaves. Hye-won had earlier realized that In-ha had discovered them because she had seen him standing at the meeting place of her and Tae-oh. Hye-won visits Tae-oh in prison. She only talks about how In-ha is still proceeding with his plan to become the heir of Kang-oh Corporation. Hye-won wants his advice on how to get the chairman's approval to start working again. Tae-oh suggests she should directly tell the chairman that she wants to work for the Kang Oh art foundation—where Geum-suk managed her slush funds. Hye-won does exactly that and, although Joong Mo initially suspects her, Hye-won manages to convince him.
Meanwhile, Tae-oh asks Tak to arrange a mobile phone for him. Elsewhere, the chairman asks In-ha to come for dinner along with Hye-won at the Kang residence.
In prison, Tae-oh is secretly handed a mobile phone but before he can use it, he is called out to meet a visitor, and Tae-oh hides the phone in a corner. It's his mother, still disguised as a monk; however, Tae-oh refuses to meet her. On the way back to his cell, Tae-oh changes his mind but his mom has already left. The guard chases to hold him back and Tae-oh is distressed about not meeting his mother.
At night, Tae-oh is in solitary confinement. He sees the eyes of a prison guard through the bars and realizes that the driver that night was not Mo Gi-jun. At that moment, Tak is tasked to bring food and Tae-oh asks for Tak's help.
Tae-oh uses the phone Tak secretly gave him to call Uwan and tells him about his discovery. He asks Uwan to find the driver, who can prove that Gi-jun killed In-ju.
Uwan meets with Hongyu because he can provide information about Gi-jun. The man tells him about Roy, who is loyal to Gi-jun. Uwan sends people to Roy's hideout; he escapes and hides at Gi-jun's club where Gi-jun quickly kills him for compromising his location. At this time, In-ha also arrives and suggests killing Tae-oh.
Hye-won visits Tae-oh in prison and talks about her upcoming dinner at the Kang residence. She also admits she wants to own Kang-oh and seeks Tae-oh’s advice. She shows him the scar on her neck. Tae-oh vows to make her the heir.
In-ha quickly learns about Hye-won's visit to Tae-oh. That evening, at the Kang villa, the chairman appoints Hye-won as the director of the Kang Oh art foundation, much to the dismay of the family members.
After dinner, In-ha meets with Gi-jun and he calls a prison guard. It seems they are planning to kill Tae-oh. A guard comes to wake Tae-oh, saying he has a visitor. Tae-oh leaves and Tak notices his absence. Meanwhile, In-ha visits Uwan's restaurant and recognizes him as the person from the elevator the other day.
